Is Wealthy Affiliate for Beginners? Using WA for a Writing Business

Build A Successful Online Business
This post isn’t like my usual blogs. There’s no writing tips, book reviews, or anything related to my writing progress. Instead, I’ll be focusing on the program I use for marketing.

Aside from my personal job as a writer, I’m also an affiliate marketer. This helps with the business side of my writing career. It might also help with yours as well. Below, I’ll provide you with a brief review of Wealthy Affiliate and how you can apply it to marketing your books should you decide to join.

What Is Wealthy Affiliate?

Wealthy Affiliate was created by Kyle and Carson in September 2005. It’s an online program with step-by-step lessons that can help you get started on an online business. It can apply to an affiliate marketing business or an online business of any kind, which is why I use it as the foundation of my writing business.

The program has 5 courses with about 10-12 lessons each. You can choose to make a business out of any interest. I chose to use it for my writing. With each course, you’ll learn how to create your own website, attract visitors, and earn revenue. You’ll be taught the different ways to earn revenue, whether it’s through affiliate links, pay-per-click ads, or through other methods that suit your needs.

If you want to join but don’t know what kind of online business to create, Wealthy Affiliate has what’s called, “Affiliate Bootcamp.” It’s basically the same thing as learning how to create an online business, but instead of promoting your own services or products, you’re promoting the Wealthy Affiliate program itself.

One of the main tools that I love at Wealthy Affiliate is its Keyword Search Tool, now known as Jaxxy on the site. This tool helps you to find a niche to work in or keywords to blog about. Type in any keyword and you’ll learn how much competition works in that niche and whether you should invest in creating content about it.

You can join for free with a Starter Membership or pay a monthly or yearly subscription for the Premium Membership.

For Starter Members:

  • You can join for free
  • You can create up to 2 free websites
  • You can access 2 training courses with 10 lessons each for free

For Premium Members:

  • You can create up to 50 websites (25 free and 25 domain)
  • You can access all training courses for free
  • You’ll get 24/7 help and support via Live Chat
  • You have access to 1000’s of free WordPress themes
  • You have access to weekly webinars which can be replayed at any time
  • Going Premium means you’ll pay a monthly subscription of $49/month or $359/year (saving 33% per month)

Can You Make Money With Wealthy Affiliate?

As with any business, how much you make depends on how much you work. If you’re using it to promote your own products or through some other method, yes, you can make money. It all depends on how much time you invest in working. A similar question is when can you expect to make money? That also varies. Some make their first commissions by the second month of working. Some by the fourth.

Can Wealthy Affiliate Help Your Writing Business?

Yes. I’ve used it to create my website (which you’re on) and it has been extremely helpful. The tutorials on how to use WordPress and how to get seen on google helps tremendously. And being visible is key to getting a book sold. If no one knows I exist, how will they know about my book? Wealthy Affiliate has lessons that can help teach you how to rank in google in order for people to see the content you put on your website.

Is Wealthy Affiliate A Scam?

No. I’ve been a member since September 2017 and no one’s ever tried to sell me products or con me into giving them $100s or $1000s of my hard-earned cash. It’s built to help people create an online business. If you’re wondering why people have to pay a monthly or yearly fee for the Premium Membership, think of it as an investment and not a cost. I don’t mind paying it because I’ve paid $1000’s for my college tuition, so $359 a year isn’t a problem for me compared to what I’m spending for school.

My Personal Thoughts

The program is user-friendly, caters to helping you build an online business, and the members there are very kind and helpful. I’ve seen success stories of people quitting their day job because what they’ve learned from this program helped them earn enough to be self-employed. As a writer, I dream of being able to write full-time, and what I’ve learned from WA has been extremely helpful in helping me get closer to reaching that goal.

Pros:

  • 24/7 help from the community
  • Advice and answers from Kyle and Carson themselves
  • Exclusive training from experts
  • Free starter membership
  • Literal step-by-step video training from Kyle himself

Cons:

  • The information could be overwhelming at first

Pros Again:

  • You can learn to make a business out of anything
  • The community is very supportive
  • Many members are all beginners as well, working in all kinds of different fields

Yes, actually I have used Wealthy Affiliate. So far, I have really liked the helpful community. It is great seeing people as they progress making their websites. I also like how older members put out training as well as the live video training from Jay.

Honestly, there are so many advantages that writers have using Wealthy Affiliate. Since you are learning marketing, if you learn how to create your own ebooks you can use it to get an audience.

Thanks, Asmithxu. That’s exactly true. One of the main things a writer, especially a new one, fails to focus on firsthand is the marketing and business side of their writing career.

Writing a book is the main focus, of course. But if you don’t build your author’s platform on the side, by the time you’re ready to release your book, no one will have heard of you or have a way to find your novel.

Thanks for sharing your experience with WA. 🙂

Hi BK, thanks for this insight into Wealthy Affiliate and had I not already been a member here I would certainly have been very tempted to go and have a good look into what was available.

However, having been a member for almost 2 years now I would agree with everything that you have put here and say that joining Wealthy Affiliate has been one of the best decisions I have made.
